Contractor appointed for Bristol secondary school project

  • 18th September 2025

GRAHAM has been appointed by the Department for Education to deliver the new Oasis Academy school in Bristol.

Oasis Academy Temple Quarter will be a new state-of-the-art mainstream secondary school located in Temple Quarter.

Designed to accommodate 1,600 pupils, the project is a significant step forward in providing high-quality education facilities for the local community.

Work will include the creation of a modern main school building alongside the conversion of a smaller existing listed building, known as the boiler shop, which will be transformed into the school’s new sports hall.

In total, the school will provide a Gross Internal Floor Area (GIFA) of 12,182sq m and will ensure a vibrant and functional hub for pupils.

Alongside this, as part of a wider masterplan, planning has been secured across adjacent plots which will include the development of residential, commercial, research and enterprise, and student accommodation.

Due to be completed in September 2027, the new school has been designed to provide an inspiring learning environment, combining facilities with spaces that support student wellbeing and foster a strong sense of community.

Once complete, it will not only meet the growing demand for school places, but will also create a lasting legacy for future generations of learners in Bristol.

Richard James, head of school at Oasis Academy Temple Quarter, said: “The development of our permanent site is a major milestone for East Bristol – a community that has long championed high-quality secondary education.

“While we’ve remained committed to providing a safe and supportive learning environment at our temporary Spring Street site, our new property on Silverthorne Lane will be much more than a building.

“It will be a lasting home for learning, growth, and community pride.

“We’re excited to be working with GRAHAM and the Department for Education to bring this vision to life – creating a vibrant, modern space that reflects the ambition and energy of our students and their families.”

Peter Reavey, regional director at GRAHAM, added: “GRAHAM is delighted to be constructing the new Oasis Academy Temple Quarter scheme in Bristol for the DfE.

“The start on site for the Project marks several years of hard work by the entire project team.

“We look forward to providing the new learning facility for Oasis Community Learning that generations of school children in the Bristol area will get the benefit from.”
