Day nursery in Johnstone sold after 23 years

  • 30th January 2025

The Gleniffer Nursery in Johnstone, Renfrewshire, has been sold after a 23-year ownership.

Registered for 45 children, the nursery occupies a detached former church hall building located in the heart of Johnstone.

The setting was previously owned by husband-and-wife team, Norman and Morag MacAulay.

Morag was involved in setting up the nursery in 1998, the first private nursery in Johnstone.

In 2002, Morag and Norman took ownership of the nursery and, over the past 27 years, Gleniffer has been part of the community in Johnstone, providing childcare for local families and developing the nursery with a working partnership with Renfrewshire Council.

The pair recently decided to sell the setting to allow them to pursue retirement.

Following a confidential sales process with Callum Lancaster at Christie & Co, it has been sold to first-time buyer, AMS Estate Ltd.

Nobeela Khalid and Sitwatd Choudry, directors at AMS Estate Ltd, said: “We explored several nurseries that were of interest to us.

“After having a constructive discussion with Callum, he trimmed our specific requirements and recommended us to consider Gleniffer Nursery.

“A primary factor contributing to our contentment was its well-established goodwill, experienced management/staff, and its freehold status, coupled with the opportunity for modernisation and expansion.

“We firmly believe that we could achieve substantial improvements, and our initial weeks of ownership have proven to be highly promising.”

The Gleniffer Nursery was sold for an undisclosed price.
