Site of Taunton School’s International Middle School on the market
The former site of Taunton School’s International Middle School has been brought to the market for sale or to let.
The opportunity follows the decision by Taunton School to relocate the International Middle School to the main School Campus in Taunton, a key step in the school’s overall vision to become ‘one school’.
The main campus is being significantly enhanced and the development of a new boarding facility, with capacity for 140 students, is currently under construction.
Situated on the outskirts of Kingston St Mary in Somerset, The Grange extends to approximately 1.87 acres encompassing three buildings – the main school building and two detached annexes – set within landscaped gardens and grounds.
The main building was constructed in around 1862 and was once the holiday home of British Prime Minister, Sir Anthony Eden.
This Grade II-listed dressed Ham Stone building extends to approximately 9,195sq ft and includes various striking historic features, such as wooden panelling, stained glass windows, and a wooden staircase connecting the ground and first floor.
The two annexes are set up as boarding houses. The first is L-shaped and extends to approximately 6,541sq ft, encompassing a living room, laundry room, kitchen, and bathrooms, along with 14 student bedrooms and two staff flats.
The second extends to 5,721sq ft and comprises 12 student bedrooms, a small kitchen, two living rooms, and a number of bathrooms, along with a staff flat.
The buildings sit within mature and well-maintained gardens and grounds, which include a summerhouse and a hexagonal building previously used as a forest school.
The Grange is being marketed by by Savills for sale or rental as a conversion opportunity or for continued use as a school or other education facility.
Rhiannon Wicks, who is marketing the site on behalf of Savills Development in Exeter, said: “The Grange offers a unique opportunity to convert an attractive Grade II-listed building in a sought-after village.
“There is scope for a range of uses, such as residential or leisure, or it could continue to be used as an educational space.
“The breadth of potential here, along with its attractiveness and desirable location, means that we are expecting high levels of interest for the site.”
The Grange is being offered to the market for freehold sale with vacant possession, preferably on an unconditional basis, or for let with lease terms to be agreed.
