TG Escapes launches inclusive SEND learning hubs

  • 6th May 2025

In direct response to the UK Government’s landmark commitment of £740m to deliver 10,000 new school places for children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), modular timber building manufacturer, TG Escapes, has announced the launch of its Inclusive Learning Hubs.

The innovative, sustainable modular buildings have been designed specifically to meet the needs of SEND learners in local communities.

Karl Stokes, managing director at TG Escapes, said: “We are proud to be able to support this vital national initiative with a solution that is fast to deploy, cost-effective, and thoughtfully designed for the diverse needs of SEND students.

“Our Inclusive learning Hubs are more than classrooms – they are nurturing environments that help children thrive while allowing schools and local authorities to maximise every pound of funding.”

Bridging the gap

For many families, the shortage of local SEND places has long meant difficult decisions and disruptive travel.

TG Escapes’ Inclusive Learning Hubs directly address this challenge by enabling new capacity to be added within existing school grounds or on smaller, available sites — reducing the need for large-scale new school construction and ensuring students remain connected to local support networks.

Constructed using precision modular methods and sustainable timber, the buildings are typically delivered significantly faster than traditional builds, helping local authorities act quickly on funding allocations and meet urgent demand.

And each hub is tailored to the specific needs of SEND learners, incorporating:

  • Biophilic design for wellbeing – natural light, timber, and access to nature
  • Sensory-sensitive features – including acoustics, adaptable lighting, and quiet zones
  • Flexible layouts for therapy, group work, or specialist interventions
  • Full accessibility, meeting, or exceeding, regulatory standards

Stokes said: “This isn’t just about buildings, it’s about giving every child the chance to learn and grow in a space that supports their unique needs — close to home, in a setting that values their inclusion and wellbeing.”

Energy efficient

In addition to their educational benefits, the hubs are designed with energy efficiency and environmental sustainability at their core, achieving net-zero carbon in operation.

With shorter construction timelines, lower lifecycle costs, and integrated turnkey services (including design, planning, and installation), they enable local authorities to stretch government funding further and create more high-quality places.

Stokes said: “As the Government focuses on expanding SEND infrastructure, TG Escapes is ready to partner with schools and councils to ensure inclusive, accessible learning environments are delivered where they are needed most — quickly, sustainably, and cost-effectively.

TG Escapes worked in partnership with SEND specialist architects, Haverstock; The Blue Iris Partnership; and Terra Firma Landscape Architects on the Inclusive Learning Hub concept.
