Tilbury Douglas celebrates steel-signing ceremony at Sandilands school
Contractor, Tilbury Douglas, has marked a significant construction milestone at Sandilands Community Primary School in Wythenshawe with a steel-signing ceremony.
The project, which began in March 2024, is scheduled for completion in Autumn 2025.
The development is being delivered over two phases.
Phase One will see the construction of a two-storey building, providing new teaching spaces, a dining hall, and offices.
The structure is being built with a steel frame and will feature a brickwork and metal cladding exterior.
The building is designed to maximise natural lighting and will include PV panels on the roof, contributing to the school’s net zero sustainability goals.
Phase Two will focus on the demolition of the existing school, hard and soft landscaping, and revised parking arrangements.
The project is set to bring significant benefits to the local community, including employment and training opportunities.
Tilbury Douglas aims for a 56% social value return on investment, benefiting Wythenshawe by collaborating with Trafford College, Co-op Academy, and Newbridge Group on apprenticeships careers fairs, mock interviews, and digital construction events.
Martin Horne, regional director for the North West at Tilbury Douglas, said: “This project demonstrates our commitment to delivering state-of-the-art education facilities while supporting the local community.
“The steel signing marks a key milestone in the construction of a building that will serve future generations.”
