Work begins on Laurus Grace School in Stockport
Construction work has started on the new Laurus Grace School in Stockport.
Following planning approval secured on behalf of the Department for Education (DfE), the two-storey building will be constructed on the former tennis courts within the grounds of Hazel Grove High School (HGHS).
The new facility, once completed, will be operated by the Laurus Trust and will accommodate up to 80 pupils.
Designed with sustainability at its core, the development will feature photovoltaic panels on the roof and canopies in the car park to support the school’s net-zero goals.
The design also maximises natural lighting throughout the building.
In addition to parking for the new school, the development includes improved parking for HGHS staff and segregated parking for construction teams.
Targeting a social value return on investment of more than £3m, contractor, Tilbury Douglas, will collaborate with local partners, Star Procurement and Pure Employment, to focus on local spending, job creation, and education engagement with HGHS and Stockport College.
Martin Horne, regional director for the North West at Tilbury Douglas, said: “We are excited to begin work on the Laurus Grace School, a project that will not only provide a modern and sustainable learning environment for future students, but will also contribute to the local community through jobs, training, and investment.”
The project team also includes Iceni Projects, Pozzoni, Tace, and AJP.
